Contemporary Art at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art
Crystal Bridges
A few weeks agone I went to Northwest Arkansas with my mom to see Listen To Your Mother and while we were in the surface area, I visited Crystal Bridges for the first time.
Crystal Bridges is a Museum of American Art that opened in Northwest Arkansas in 2011. Located about 30 minutes north of Fayetteville (home to The Academy of Arkansas), the museum is off the browbeaten bath, surrounded by forests.
I'm pretty sure all of the art museums I've e'er visited have been in cities, and then it'southward unusual for sure, merely also really cute. The drive into the museum is gorgeous. While we were there in May, the flowers on the grounds were as lovely as the museum itself.
In fact, it's difficult to say what I loved most about Crystal Bridges. Was information technology the surrounding walkways in the woods, the compages of the buildings or the fine art drove?
All three are equally AMAZING!
The surrounding walkways and paths run through the woods, over ponds and around outdoor sculptures.
The museum doesn't open until 11am, just the grounds are open from sunrise to dusk, so Mother and I arrived early and spent at least an hour walking the trails.
In that location are trail maps bachelor throughout the park grounds, and parts of information technology are paved and wheelchair accessible. We saw several young families with their trikes and bikes making their way through the woods or playing at a park that is likewise just outside the museum.
I could have spent the entire day simply in this role of Crystal Bridges. So beautiful!
Earlier going, I had heard nearly most The Architecture Of Crystal Bridges.
Designed by builder Moshe Safdie, the edifice is a cluster of structures with long windowed hallways that run on the outsides of the exhibition halls inside them.
Happy, Clean Lines + Natural Light + Warm Wood Tones = Distractingly Awesome Design!
Seriously, I kept stopping outside the exhibitions to stand in front of these windows or stare upward at the ceilings.
In the center of the buildings is a pond and an outdoor eating/playing area.
If I lived in Northwest Arkansas, I would gear up up shop at 1 of those tables on a weekly basis for sure.
The Art Collection at Crystal Bridges was what I had come up to run into.
Information technology is has been said that it is an unbelievable drove for my little home country to possess, so I was broken-hearted to wander the halls and take in the paintings.
The collection is organized by fourth dimension catamenia, start with American Fine art from the Colonial Period and progresses to Modern Pop Art. I loved how easy it was to flow through the museum's collection chronologically. It only fabricated sense.
Way too many favorites to proper noun, just here are but a few highlights.
The Reader by Mary Cassatt
People In Other Rooms by (a long time favorite) Jacob Lawrence
Antartica by Richard Estes
Night Zag Wall by Louise Nevelson (This is a huge sculpture of painted woods scraps that the artist saved from her male parent'southward wood shop. LOVE!)
At the end of the bout, yous come out into this beautiful infinite. At one finish is a java and dessert bar and at the other is a spot to order upwards a tasty lunch.
Just in fourth dimension! Nosotros were ready for a little yum later our day at the museum.
Shrimp and Grits.
Greek Salad Platter.
I have to say that I am a piffling jealous of Northwest Arkansas Folks, because they can wander into this lilliputian haven on a whim.
Oh, and maybe the best part of all is that a visit to the full general collection is COMPLETELY FREE. This is not a sponsored mail service and I totally visited Crystal Bridges all on my own because I had heard such great things, simply I'd exist lying if I didn't tell y'all that my Arkansas pride swelled a trivial after being there.
Y'all could visit Arkansas to go camping in a nearby land park, and then make a side trip to a world form museum. Plus yous can arrive a little hiking while you're there. That's kind of astonishing, y'all!
I hope to become back one mean solar day and take my kiddos.
Have y'all visited Crystal Bridges? Did you beloved it?
